Partitions are usually done to split the hard drive into separate volumes. It is created at the time when you need to set each disk for specific use. It is also done to create dual boot mode i.e. when you want to install two operating system in two different drives. It is good to have disk partition as it provides efficient file management by separating operating system and program files from user files. Partition affects the overall performance of the system.

Sometimes there comes a situation when you need to resize MAC partition. It mainly happens when you need to install some new software to a particular drive and you don’t have enough space to install it. In that case you nee to resize that partition in order to install that software. It is also done in the case when you find that you have given too much space to one drive and not enough to another.

If you are in such kind of need you can resize MAC partition by using Disk Utility tool. It can be easily done by adopting following steps:

Open disk utility
Select the particular drive that you want to resize
Click on the partition tab
Type the size you want to the Size box or drag the right corner of the volume to required size
Click on Apply button

Disk Utility can resize MAC partition but sometimes it fails to do so and start showing errors when you try to resize the partition. It is not safe way because there is a chance of data loss during resizing. In case if you don’t have backup then you will suffer a lot. So, it’s better to use Partition MAC software.
